King Gustav 1 of Sweden Founded Helsinki Finland

Helsinki, nowadays the capital of Finland, is founded by King Gustav I of Sweden in 1550. Yes, it used to be part of Sverige. And today, centuries later, Swedish singer Robyn (*1979) sings a happy birthday song to lovely Helsinki!

Also amazing news, this time from Germany. Where the earliest form of a bicycle, the dandy horse, is driven by Karl von Drais in 1817. And we wish a happy birthday to German-American engineer John A. Roebling (*1806), who designed the Brooklyn Bridge.

Anne Frank‘s (*1929) family designed a hiding place in a closet, to keep her hidden from evil people during the second world war. On this day in 1942, Anne received a diary for her birthday. And this little girl’s would memoirs soon became the world’s most famous diary.

A bit of a different cultural heritage now, as Queen Elizabeth II reopens the Globe Theatre in London in 1997. It was founded by Shakespeare’s playing company and had to be fully restored after a fire.

Fiery model Adriana Lima (*1981) brings in the birthday cake for banker David Rockefeller (*1915) and painter Egon Schiele (*1890). Actor Richard Ayoade (*1977) really loves cake, but psychologist Jordan Peterson (*1962) is still examining his genius brain. Save them a piece, please, Adriana…
